Ealing Hospital Cycle Buddies

London Cycling Campaign came to Ealing hospital yesterday to run a Dr. Bike and promote our Cycle Buddies scheme to NHS staff. Cycle Buddies pairs experienced cyclists with a new or returning cyclists to help them build up confidence. Experienced buddies can help with route planning, and can accompany new cyclists on their route to work, the shops, or simply for leisure. You can find out more and sign up here.

Ealing hospital offers a bike loan scheme for staff to travel between premises or out in the community, and has recently improved its cycle parking. It now has two secure cycle parking compounds for staff. There is still room for more improvement. There could be more visitor and staff cycle parking outside the different entrances to the hospital and buildings in the hospital grounds, such as Meadow House. And one cycle rack that holds the bikes by the front wheels needs to be replaced with Sheffield stands. But it's good to see the hospital is heading in the right direction.

One big improvement that will make it much easier and more pleasant to ride a bike to the hospital will be the new cycle lanes along the Uxbridge Road between Southall and Hanwell. The council published draft plans a couple of months ago, but we don't know when they will be installed.
