Jubilee River
.

August

A record twenty six people turned out for this green and pleasant Jubilee River ride. We enjoyed a picnic on the banks of the Thames at Windsor.

With the popularity of this ride increasing every year, the ability of the train service is now a real bottleneck: No staff were on duty outbound from Ealing so we crammed in. However, for the return from Maidenhead, platform staff tried to prevent us boarding more than two bikes to a door. As the trains are only of three carriages, this is a theoretical limit of twelve bikes per train. A solution would be to use two trains if necessary which can be up to thirty minutes apart. The first cohort could have a coffee at Maidenhead awaiting the remainder.

Apart from the above, I will enhance the route for next year, using National Cycle Route 4 (visiting the Eton rowing lake, the largest in Europe and an Olympic venue) and the Thames tow-path downstream of Maidenhead bridge. This will make the ride 97% traffic free.
