riders assembled at Ealing Town Hall on the 1st March, a cool grey
morning, destination the Imperial War Museum.
Our
departure was not delayed to any extent
despite a swift swop of inner tube due to a snapped valve stem. (well
done Sal!!)

hardy cyclists gathered at Ealing Town Hall, despite the heavily
overcast sky. It started raining just as we left and rained the whole
way to the RAF Museum; fortunately it was mainly a tail wind so we
didn't have rain blowing in our faces. We spent 3 hours at the museum
(some folks tried out the flight simulator) and then returned under a
moderately sunny sky. One puncture each way.
The museum is massive and really needs a 6-hour visit to take in most
of it. A real contrast in size between the 1st World War biplanes and
the flying boats and Vulcan bombers. Official bike parking at the
museum is hidden away with no signs to it, and limited to 4 stands, so
we had to make use of nearby railings to secure our bikes.
The 10.3 mile outward journey included quiet roads and 5 miles off-road:
woodland path, proper cycle ways, sealed paths through parks, and
smooth grass beside playing fields. For full details see:

The 10.2 mile return journey via a different route included mainly
quiet roads with only 2.5 miles off-road: a mixture of sealed paths
through parks plus not-so-smooth grass through country parks. For full
details

Thanks to Mike for backstopping.
