Hampstead Heath Ponds
.

October 2009

Cycle ride leaders Barbara and Jane were at Ealing Town Hall to greet the 32 riders for this additional mid month trip. An initial problem with Barbara’s front tyre, delayed the start slightly. Thanks to Jack and Andy for fixing it. Sorry to any Hammersmith riders who we may have missed due to the delay.

We joined the canal at Park Royal where one rider left us. We travelled straight along the canal, stopping for coffee at Little Venice. From there we travelled through Maida Vale/ St John’s Wood and had a quick stop to look at the Abbey Road zebra crossing made famous by the Beatles. From there we made our way across the Finchley Road and started our steep ascent of the Hampstead back roads.

One hardy person from Jane’s walking group went for a dip in the outdoor men’s pond at Hampstead Heath. The others either had lunch at the Burgh House Museum Café or had a picnic on the Heath. We assembled about an hour and a half later for the return journey home – mostly downhill or flat. We were back at Ealing Town Hall for 15.45 having covered about 24 miles.

Thank you to Murray for marshalling – we used his loud voice for shouting instructions to the riders.

Thank you to all the other riders; we hope you enjoyed yourselves.
