20
cyclists gathered at Slough station on a sunny late summer Sunday
morning for a tour of Berkshire lanes. I led last year and it was
flattering to find that attendance more than doubled this year because,
apparently, of good reports last year.
My aim leading the ride was to visit each of the quietest, prettiest
and nicest lanes that I know of in my area. I hope to have achieved
that. The White Horse pub in Hedgerley was as charming as ever.
In Burnham Beeches woods a few tail-enders got left behind at a turning
and I had to go back and fetch them. Unlike last year, I thought it
would be an idea to visit some of the ancient coppiced beech trees with
their extraordinary shapes and holes in the trunks big enough to walk
through.
Hope everyone was OK with that. Got back to Slough station on time at 4
pm.
Thank you everyone who turned out, hope you enjoyed it!
