Imperial War Museum
.

March 2009

18 riders assembled at Ealing Town Hall on the 1st March, a cool grey morning, destination the Imperial War Museum.

Our departure was not delayed to any extent despite a swift swop of inner tube due to a snapped valve stem. (well done Sal!!)

We left Ealing centre just after 10.00am by way of Grove Rd, passing the ‘Polish Cafe‘ venue for the Ealing LCC monthly meetings. We circumvented Ealing Common, crossing the North Circular at its south western corner to cross Uxbridge rd near Ealing Common tube station.

A relatively quiet stretch through Acton found us at Horn Lane (Via a part of Creffield Rd which would probably win an award for the worst maintained rd in Ealing Borough).

Down Churchfield Rd we rode past Acton Central Station and then up Perryn Rd to cross the A40 pedestrian bridge near the bridge works.

A good quiet run round the back of HMP Wormwood Scrubs and Hammersmith Hospital bought us out into North Kensington. Quiet Sunday roads saw us through to Notting Hill, over Portobello Rd, Chepstow Rd and eventually (via a useful loo stop), to Bayswater Rd, into Kensington Gardens and then Hyde Park.
Through the park we went, down to Hyde Park Corner and eventually Buckingham Palace, where the crowds and a helpful Constable forced us on a small detour to eventually find Buckingham Gate.

Buckingham Gate led us to Horseferry Rd, Lambeth Bridge and finally the Museum.

Here we spend 2 hrs, re fuelling and resting, and then re traced our steps at 2.00pm to Bayswater Rd, and then down Holland Park Avenue, round the back of Shepherds Bush Roundabout, across the Green and home to Ealing at around 4.00pm via the Uxbridge Rd and Acton.

Thanks to Murray, Kelvin, Sav and others for assisting where necessary during the run.

Total miles 24.5.
