Perhaps not the most obvious
route, but the Hammersmith & Fulham LCC were off for a family
ride to Richmond to scare the deer so five of us pitched up. A very
gentle 6 miles to Hammersmith got the limbs warmed up in the cold
March air. We met up with John Griffiths who is the co-coordinator
for H&F and several other residents, one riding a hand built
tri-cycle used for furniture delivery complete with what can only
be described as bull-bars.
We followed them through the back roads of Barnes to enter Richmond
Park in the Roehampton Gate and almost immediately came across a
herd of young deer. After many photographs and many failed attempts
by young and old alike to actually stroke one we rode up Spankers
Hill Wood for a picnic then headed slowly back to Richmond Gate
before parting company.
The Ealing crowd followed the Thames on the south side past Kew
before submitting to traffic and heading over the Kew bridge and
back into Ealing. A round trip a shade under 21 miles not bad for
a group ranging from 9 to 85 years old!
